Exercising For Efficiency: What you do and don't need to do!

Posted by derek langill in Fitness Information

Believe it or not many people don't realize how short workouts have to be if you are working out efficiently. It is important to workout smarter to achieve maximum results. Many people will go into a gym, hit a machine and weight train with the same weights as they normally do, day in and day out! How are you supposed to climb up the ladder to achieving your goals when you don't increase the weight you are lifting, or increase the intensity in which you are performing your cardio. Their are many ways you can increase your intensity while weight training including; increasing reps, sets, speeds of your lifts (slow or fast), and increasing weight lifted.

But what many people don't realize is that the way to decrease your body fat, maximize muscle gain, and increase your energy expenditure is by exercising your entire body as one unit. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN! For instance, performing a squat. Most people will grab a pair of dumbells and perform a weighted squat while holding the dumbells at their side. A more efficient exercise would be to perform a squat, curling up the dumbells as a biceps curl, and then pressing them into a shoulder press. The concept is that one is recruiting more muscle fibers in this type of exercise, thereby burning more calories.
